HYDROGEOLOGY/GEOCHEMISTRY MSc OPPORTUNITY
with FIELD RESEARCH in BOLIVIA
We are seeking a graduate student (M.Sc.) to conduct hydrogeological/geochemical research in rural Bolivia as part of a CIDA-funded university partnerships and capacity building (UPCD) project. The degree program would be at the University of Calgary, with field research conducted in collaboration with the Central American Water Resource Management Network. The field work would be conducted in Bolivia. The student will be supervised by Dr. Cathy Ryan and will have Bolivian and Canadian logistical support in Bolivia. Financial support will be provided through a combination of research and teaching assistantships.
Interested candidates should have a background in hydrogeology, geology, geochemistry or environmental science and be willing to develop and conduct independent scientific research. The candidate should be comfortable living and working (including conducting field work in rural areas with scarce resources) independently in a developing country. Functional Spanish (or fluency in French) is required. The candidate could begin working on the project between May and September 2008.
